Grace L Pickens
September 23, 1924 – November 15, 2017

Grace L. Pickens, born September 23, 1924 in rural Garrison, Texas to George Washington Lowrance and Mary Jane Oxsheer, Grace Lowrance Pickens passed away peacefully on November 15, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas. She was descended from Texas pioneers who entered Nacogdoches County in 1802 and established the Naconiche Ranch. Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday November 18,2017 at 11:00am at Howard-Williams Funeral Home in Hebbronville, TX followed by burial in Greenhill Cemetery in Hebbronville, TX.  Arrangements provided by Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton, TX.

Grace attended Garrison High School and Stephen F. Austin State University. She was a School Teacher for the Mirando City I.S.D. and in 1947 married Raymond H Pickens who coached football and ran a successful oil and gas company throughout South Texas. She was a loving and devoted wife for 56 years up to Raymond’s death in 2003, the two worked and lived in Mirando for more than 46+ years.

Grace loved children and often taught Sunday school at the Methodist Church she attended. She is preceded in death by her daughter Janice G Pickens Paddock, and is survived by her sons Robert A Pickens II.,of Kerrville and Raymond T Pickens, of Pleasanton, and grandchildren Megan Lynn Pickens, of Kerrville, and Ray Pickens Jr.,of Pleasanton.

Like most of her siblings, Grace was athletic, strong, and sharp. She taught school full-time and maintained the accounting for the family oil and gas company. She kept sharp by completing the crossword puzzle each morning. Grace loved the Spurs and tennis, if Tim Duncan or Rafael Nadal were on TV you’d be asked to leave if you stopped by for a visit.

Grace is survived by her sister Sophie Hancock. She is preceded indeath by her sisters Iva B Lowrance, May Lowrance, Ann Lowrance,Lou Engle, Joy Wright Fugate, and her brothers Tom Lowrance,Oxsheer Lowrance, and Robert Lowrance.

The Pickens family would like to thank long time personal friend and caretaker Ana Castillo as well as Elizabeth Canalas (aka “Liz Taylor”).Pallbearers will be Rick Walker, Primo Walker, Rick Hernandez,Rene Hernandez, Paul Castillo, and Ray Pickens Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Eric Hernandez. Funeral service will be conducted at Howard Williams-Turcotte Funeral Home in Hebronville, Texas at11:00 am on Saturday, November 18, 2017, followed by interment at Greenhill Cemetery also in Hebronville.
